Eat Well
Eat well to improve energy and maintain good health. For ideas on how to eat healthy when tired and busy, refer to (link to Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating)
Sleep!
Look for ways to get enough sleep. Nap when your baby naps, have someone you trust care for your baby while you rest. Go to bed early. Listen to music to help you relax or to give you energy.
Excercise
Exercise improves your energy level and outlook. Look for ways to build it into your day – exercising at home, going for a walk, joining a community centre with childcare.
Get Out
Get out of the house regularly. Try to get out of the house once a day whether it’s for a walk, to garden, to visit a friend, to go to the library or attend a time-out program.
Nuture Relationships
Spend time with your partner to nurture your relationship. Take some time away from the baby to share thoughts and concerns. Even if you can’t go out, try a candlelight dinner, a cuddle on the couch or sharing a hobby.
Just say no
Set limits on what you do – be willing to say NO to others and to yourself. Don’t worry if the day doesn’t turn out as you expected. If you’re too tired, leave the dishes for tomorrow.
Talk about it
Call a friend or a parent support organization for practical and emotional support. Accept offers of help! Connect with other parents in your community, at parenting groups, at work, etc.
